Hi I'm Serena Cofer

My greatest aim is to empower others to learn how to create the life they want.Using movement and awareness, I support women in transforming their lives - whether that is finding more ease in moving physically, more clarity in thinking or in elevating their overall well-being.


For many years, my life was a struggle. The daily grind of working full time at a job I didn't really enjoy, taking care of my four kids and striving to meet life's demands took a large toll on my mental, emotional and physical health. I was barely holding on. Life was so much of what I did not want!


When I was seeking options to help my son who lives with rheumatoid arthritis in his hips, I found the Feldenkrais Method® of somatic education and began to feel hope for both of us. I took the training and started using the method for myself and my son. The more we did, the more I saw physical improvements in each of us. His hip mobility increased, my neck and shoulder pain were significantly reduced and I began to move with greater poise and ease.


What amazed me even more were the changes I felt in my mental and emotional health. I wasn’t as reactive or stressed about challenges or upsets to my day. And, I began experiencing more joy, more clarity, more hope and more confidence.


I now help other women discover their own possibilities.


As an authorized Awareness Through Movement® teacher, I teach group programs as well as offering private sessions.


Learning is a process, so this is a lifelong journey for me and for everyone who engages with me. I would love to support you on your path to greater peace, poise and empowerment.

How can I get out of pain?

Pain is a symptom of an underlying issue. It’s the body’s way of keeping you from getting hurt further. As you begin to engage with movements in a slow, gentle manner, the muscular tension will decrease, easing the pain. As you continue exploring various movement patterns within your range of comfort, you will discover new ways of moving that won’t cause pain. Through continued gentle explorations, you will discover that the pain lessens or even dissipates completely.


How long will it take?

Every person learns at a different rate. There are guidelines that will help you increase your rate of learning and assimilating the changes you want to experience. Some of those are: invest in a practitioner for support, use awareness of the minutest details, become clear about what and how you do each movement, use minimal effort and movement, be extremely curious, engage in the movements with a smile (a happy/joyful countenance), and rest often. Do NOT strain, stretch, push, effort, or try to achieve.


What can I do when it seems like all doors are closed and I don't have any option ?

Discovering possibilities and new options in life is best supported by exploring possibilities within your own system, within your own movement patterns. As you do so, new neuronal pathways are formed and you begin to think and see and interact with your environment differently. The possibilities that are already there will either become more clear or a new pathway will open up.


What can I do when there are too many options and I can’t decide?

As you explore the various possibilities within movement patterns, you will practice the skill of distinguishing differences and choosing the most effective and pleasant patterns for you. This skill then is easily transferred to other areas of your life - you will more easily be able to distinguish the differences between the options and which will bring joy and fulfillment to you.


How do I create lasting change?

Lasting change comes when your body and your mind are integrated in the use of your new habits. You need the abstract concepts of what you think and what you want to become manifest in your body and your movements.
